Morikawa tells Juliet and Nick that somebody has cracked open a portal between Earth and the Rotten World by a combination of black magic and explosives, and Morikawa sets out to find the culprit. Once they are united, Morikawa explains the situation, and explains that the Universe is divided into three realms: Earth, the Land Beyond Words, and the Rotten World, an infernal realm where demons and zombies reside. Juliet attaches Nick's head to her belt, and she fights hordes of zombies on her way to meet her tutor, Morikawa (voiced by Bruce Locke in English and Bin Shimada in Japanese). When he comes to, Nick discovers he is somehow still alive, despite being a severed head, and so Juliet reveals to him that she is a zombie hunter, and that she performed a magical ritual on him which keeps his soul from being turned into a zombie and retaining his humanity, thus explaining his continued existence as a severed head. Juliet will die if she loses all her health or fails certain scenarios, though in the case of the former, Juliet may be able to come back to life by winning a roulette spin. The maximum number of lollipops Juliet can hold depends on the difficulty setting. Throughout the game, Juliet can also collect lollipops which allow her to recover health. As the game progresses, Juliet will also receive the Chainsaw Dash, which allows her to charge with her chainsaw and fly off ramps, and the Chainsaw Blaster, a long range weapon used for blasting enemies and obstacles. Sparkle Hunting is achieved when Juliet kills three or more zombies simultaneously or in quick succession and rewards platinum medals that can be spent on other goodies such as unlockable costumes, music and artwork. These medals can be spent at Chop2Shop.zom stores found throughout each level where Juliet can purchase new moves and combos, as well as items that can increase her stats. Gold medals can be earned by defeating zombies, smashing objects and rescuing classmates. Zombies can be beaten into a groggy state, during which they can instantly be killed with a chainsaw attack. Juliet can use melee attack, dodges and high and low attacks with her chainsaw. No word yet on a potential North American release of either version, but we have learned that the Japanese phrase "義理チョコ" ( giri-choko) means "obligatory gift chocolate," which is probably more entertaining in the long run.Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack and slashvideo game in which players play as Juliet as she fights through hordes of zombies. It also comes with a "Premium Movie Disc" full of trailers and cinematics, as well as a Lollipop Chainsaw manga and the Premium Edition's unlock codes. Meanwhile, the ¥4,980 ($60ish) "Valentine Edition" includes a "Happy Valentine Disc," which contains a PC desktop Juliet clock, wallpapers and various gravure pictures of the game's official cosplay models. The game's new "Premium Edition" will cost ¥3,980 (about $48) and will include codes to unlock costumes and additional character voices. There's also two new Lollipop Chainsaw special editions coming out exclusively in Japan this Valentine's Day, but that's less of a cultural difference and more of a marketing thing. Boys traditionally don't give Valentines to girls, for instance women are the primary gift-givers, and generally speaking giving anything other than chocolate is atypical. We're not sure if y'all are aware of this, but Valentine's Day works way, way differently in Japan than it does here.
